and we are very pleased to welcome DJ SUPERMARKT behind the decks.

For more than a decade, this man has been a constant source of musical inspiration to us. His own productions and DJ sets (as one half of Le Hammond Inferno and as part of the Berlin Battery crew) are pure party gold. His record label Bungalow brought J-Pop to Germany and Stereo Total to the world. And as a music blogger on howdoyouare.com, he’s the true truffle pig of soulful dance tunes.

Our very own Mr Laboso recently got stuck in a train and came out with a mixtape…

I wanted to do this one for a long time. All my favourite softrock classics in one continuous mix, spiced up with some genre-like tunes from right here and now.
While traveling on a german train the other day, apperently lightning struck (the sky was blue as far as I could see) causing the train to stop for several hours out in the open. While lynch mob parties began to form with the intention to take it out on the conductor, I was still mixing away with my headphones on and a stupid smile on my face – quite out of context actually. In fact I go so into it that I almost forgot to get off at Berlin main station…

After two decades of crappy-sounding Chic CDs, Rhino finally got round to re-releasing the music of Nile Rodgers and the late Bernard Edwards in a proper package: THE CHIC ORGANIZATION BOX SET VOL 1

Not every track in this box is really essential. And those “rescue-a-pop-star-from-back-in-the-days-by-pouring-disco-chocolate-sauce-over-him” kind of productions (Johnny Mathis?) are about as necessary as a spray cheese. But that’s not the point here.

The point is that this is fun. TONS of fun. Hedonistic, careless, ultra-funky fun. Thank you, Rodgers & Edwards, for getting my tired winter feet back into wiggle mode!

And if you every wondered why musicians of this calibre have churned out teletubby-style lyrics like “Everybody Dance, Clap Your Hands, Clap Your Hands”, chances are it might just be their sense of humour – as the following example may prove.

The birth of disco as told by its midwifes (or husbands)… a teaser for Get Down With The Philly Sound.

To go with all that nostalgic waxing here’s some New York disco with a Philly title: “212 North 12th” (the location of Philadelphia’s Sigma Sound Studios). Vince Montana’s Salsoul Orchestra – albeit after he already left the outfit – recorded this pumping instrumental Disco workout in 1979, with Tom Moulton behind the mixing board.
